In the documentary, Drake recounted how after meeting Brian, who began working at the network on All That, the acting coach, now 63, soon bonded with Drake over shared interests. But after Drake’s dad Joe Bell, his then-manager, expressed his concerns to the network, Drake recalled Brian convincing him that his dad was “a real problem.”

"My dad started making it really difficult for Brian to be around me,” Drake recalled in the docuseries. “I think Brian got a sense that my dad was on the watch. And so he started to really drive a wedge between my dad and me." 

Now a father himself to 3-year-old son Jeremy Drake Bell—whom he shares with estranged wife Janet Von Schmeling—Drake hopes that sharing his story will have a lasting impact beyond the entertainment industry.

“It could happen at school, it happens in the workplace,” he explained to E!, “it happens everywhere.”

“If that's what your child wants to do, the knee jerk reaction from something like this shouldn't be, ‘Oh, I'm never going to let my child do that,’” he continued. “It should be, ‘Well, my child wants to do that. So let's make it safe. Let's fix it.’”
