BHOPAL: The investigation into the alleged suicide of a 46-year-old man in Gandhi Colony, Morena, has taken a new turn after a video surfaced showing his family members including his daughter assaulting him.
Police have now sought a second opinion from the forensic experts to determine the exact cause of death.
On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, Harendra Maurya's family reported his death to the police, claiming that he had died by suicide. The Kotwali police, upon reaching the scene, sent the body for post-mortem as per standard procedure.
However, the case took a significant turn on Sunday, when a two-month-old video from January 2, 2025, went viral on social media. The footage allegedly shows Harendra being beaten with sticks by his wife, daughters, and other family members.
This video has now raised doubts about whether Harendra’s death was a suicide or if he was a victim of foul play.
In light of the new evidence, the Kotwali police have decided to send the reports to Gwalior’s forensic lab, where a panel of doctors will conduct an examination. Authorities are now investigating the possibility of murder and abetment, instead of treating it solely as a suicide case.
Police sources revealed that Harendra was allegedly addicted to drugs, which often led to frequent disputes with his family members.
"The case was initially reported as a suicide. However, after a two-month-old video surfaced showing the deceased being beaten, we are looking into other angles," said Morena SP Samir Saurabh. The police are now questioning Harendra’s family members, while also awaiting the forensic report, which will be crucial in determining the course of the investigation.
