Kolkata: Three fraudsters, including a student of BITS Pilani in Rajasthan, were arrested on charges of cyber identity fraud of a reputable stock market analyst and advisor in Salt Lake. Police said the trio had access to confidential stock market advice that Basant Maheshwari used to offer to his premium paid subscribers over a financial services app and his YouTube channel, and used to upload them on an account on X.
"They had threatened to continue to post the advices on the free account. They demanded Rs 30 lakh and 20,000 bitcoins for terminating the account," said Rahul Ganguly, Maheshwari's lawyer. Bidhannagar cyber cops arrested Yash Naresh Waghela (23) from Mumbai earlier this month. He gave the name of Rajasthan's Mohammad Ateequee (21) who was arrested from BITS Pilani. On Thursday, cops arrested Vipulkumar Bhatta Bhoumick (27) from Ahmedabad.
