Lebanon releases man suspected of killing Irish UN peacekeeper on bail

Lebanon's military tribunal has released a man accused of killing an Irish UN peacekeeper on bail, while four others remain at large. The accused, Mohamad Ayyad, was charged with the killing of Pvt. Sean Rooney in December 2022. Ayyad was released due to "deteriorating health," according to reports. Unifil is monitoring clashes between Hezbollah militants and Israeli troops along the border. The Irish military and Unifil are urging that all perpetrators be held accountable for the killing.
