Star batter Babar Azam on Wednesday stepped down as Pakistan captain after team's dismal show in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The 28-year-old Babar has relinquished the captaincy role of the side from all formats. During Babar's captaincy, Pakistan reached the No. 1 position in ODIs, marking a notable achievement. However, their campaign in the ICC World Cup in India concluded on a disappointing note with a significant loss to England by 93 runs. Pakistan faced setbacks in five out of their nine matches, including a defeat against arch-rival India by seven wickets.
