Poland's pro-EU bloc bags speaker post in key parliament vote

Poland's pro-EU parties have achieved their first victory in the new parliament after the general elections in October. Szymon Holownia, their candidate, was elected as the speaker of the lower house, which is the second most important position in the country. This win is seen as a test for the three parties aiming to form a government and remove the conservative and populist Law and Justice (PiS) party from power. The pro-EU parties have enough votes for a majority.
