Mexico's ruling party, the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA), has chosen Clara Brugada as its candidate for Mexico City mayor. Brugada, a two-time congresswoman and former mayor of Iztapalapa, will run for the position in the June election. If successful, she will become the second woman in a row to be elected as mayor of the Mexican capital. New gender parity rules on political representation secured Brugada's nomination, despite losing in polling commissioned by the party.
