A shark pup has been born through parthenogenesis at Brookfield Zoo near Chicago. The baby epaulette shark hatched during the summer, and its mother has never shared a tank with a male. Parthenogenesis is a form of asexual reproduction. The birth adds to the zoo's diversity of life. The shark pup is currently two months old and measures approximately 6 inches. It has been eating well and will soon be visible to zoo visitors.In contrast, the epaulette shark pup has fared better and has recently made its public debut, captivating visitors in the zoo's Living Coast exhibit.
