Former cricketer Aakash Chopra 'duped' of Rs 33 lakh by businessman

AGRA: Police on Saturday registered an FIR under IPC section 406 (criminal breach of trust) against shoe businessman Kamlesh Parikh and his son Dhruv Parikh on a complaint filed by former Indian opener and cricket commentator, Aakash Chopra.
Kamlesh had earlier served as manager of the Hyderabad Cricket Association. Chopra claimed he was duped by the Parikhs on the pretext of investing in a sports shoes business.
According to the FIR registered at the Hariparwat police station, Dhruv Parikh purportedly received Rs 57.8 lakh from Chopra for investment in his sports shoes business. "We entered into a formally notarised agreement which stipulated that Dhruv was to return the money within 30 days with a 20% profit, and post-dated cheques were provided for recovery. However, a year later, only Rs 24.5 lakh has been returned, and two issued cheques were dishonoured," the FIR, citing Chopra, said. "I spoke to Dhruv's father, Kamlesh, and he promised to honour the agreement on his son's behalf but failed to do so. Legal notices were served, but both father and son ceased communication, making the recovery of the principal amount, Rs 33.3 lakh, a challenge," Chopra alleged .
SHO Arvind Kumar said, "The documents and evidence provided by the complainant are being examined. Further action will be taken following investigation. The accused will also be called for questioning."
In February this year, another FIR was filed against Kamlesh and his son, this time on a complaint of cheating filed by the father of cricketer Deepak Chahar. Jaya Bhardwaj, wife of Deepak Chahar, claimed she was swindled of Rs 10 lakh under the guise of a business venture. As per the complaint filed on February 2, the accused, who owns a sports shop in Agra, also verbally abused Chahar's family and issued threats when asked to return the money.
