Climate change and the El Nino weather phenomenon have caused the deaths of at least 100 elephants in Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park. The Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority warns that more elephants could die due to the scarcity of rains and rising heat. The International Fund for Animal Welfare describes this situation as a crisis for elephants. Climate change may be making El Ninos stronger, leading to more extreme consequences. In 2019, over 200 elephants died in Hwange due to severe drought.
