NEW DELHI: A property dealer, along with a domestic worker, was arrested for allegedly killing his wife in the Chhawla area of Dwarka. The couple shared a troubled relationship and used to argue often.
Police said that the woman was strangled, wrapped in a bedsheet, and thrown into a drain with stone boulders placed on top. The hallmark on her nose pin helped the cops identify her. The deceased was identified as Seema (47). Her husband, Anil, and his servant, Shiv Shankar, were nabbed.
"On March 15, police received a call around 4 pm regarding the body of a female lying in the Najafgarh drain near Nirmal Dham. She was identified later with the help of the hallmark on her nose pin, which was purchased from a showroom in south Delhi. When the cops visited the showroom, they found that the woman's name was listed as Seema Singh, with billing details also showing the name of her husband, Anil Kumar," an officer said.
Police sources said that Kumar attempted to deceive his in-laws by informing them that they were on vacation in Jaipur and that Seema was unwell. He promised them to allow her to speak with them once her health improved. After this misinformation persisted for several days, the family smelt a rat and approached police. When confronted, Kumar told the cops that his wife had gone to Vrindavan.
Further investigation revealed that Seema's life was tragically cut short on March 11, when a heated argument escalated and turned ugly at her residence in Chhawla. Following the gruesome act, the perpetrators took deliberate steps to conceal their crime. "After killing her, they wrapped Seema's body in a bedsheet, securing it with a cable wire, and callously discarded it in the drain," the officer said.
Cops are probing whether more people were involved in the act.
